Honors College
National Taiwan University of Science and Technology

In 1997, this university was renamed National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. The university gradually reorganized itself into five colleges: College of Engineering, College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, School of Management, College of Design and College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences; by the time the Graduate Institute of Engi¬neering belonged to the College of Engineering. Further on, in year 2006 the university started an undergraduate program ‘University Inter-discipline Classes for Bachelor’. It offers challenges and opportunities to academically talented students from general high schools. It is also a community for students with high achievement or exceptional skill from vocational high schools. These students are enrolled in Jing-Ying Classes (Elite Classes). In the follow¬ing year, entry to Fan Xin Classes (Starlet Classes) for excellent students from vocational high schools and general high schools at most areas in Taiwan were included. Relevant affairs of the Classes were originally undertaken by the Office of Academic Affairs.

In February, 2008 ‘Honors College’ was approved by the Ministry of Education. In the mean¬time the Graduate Institute of Engineering and the University Inter-discipline Classes for Bachelor were subsumed to the Honors College. In August, 2008 “Jing Cheng Department (University Inter-discipline Department)” was established to transact the affairs of University Inter-discipline Class for Bachelor. In 2009 Graduate Institute of Biomedical Engineering was established under Honors College recruiting graduate students. This year Patent Graduate Institute Preparatory Office was established under Honors College, and in year 2010 the Institute will start recruiting master students.
